Dear One, I have good news and bad news. However you’re feeling right now, this too shall pass. In fact, if you let yourself purely feel the emotion without complicating it with language, whatever you feel will most likely end in about ninety seconds. If you’re sad, it’s fleeting. (Phew!) If you’re blissed out, it won’t last either. (Bummer.) If you’re enraged, it will move through you. (Grrrrr.) If you’re bursting with obsessively romantic fervor, the crush will fade. (Sigh . . .) Find comfort in this, darling. States are fleeting, but it’s possible to have a deeper level of joy that is not dependent on transient states. When you’re not grasping for feelings you like and resisting feelings you don’t like, you’re more likely to find gratitude in the moment for whatever experience of human emotion you’re blessed to feel right now. Don’t like how you feel in this present moment? Don’t worry. I’m here with you every ninety seconds. Nothing lasts but me, Your Inner Pilot Light – Lissa Rankin, MD, Your Inner Pilot Light |

Embarking on an Optimistic Path
Buddhism is a path of supreme optimism, for one of its basic tenets is that no human life or experience is to be wasted or forgotten, but all should be transformed into a source of wisdom and compassionate living. – Taitetsu Unno, “Number One Fool” |

Find the Feeling
Buddhanature and the natural state are not just made up of happy, sweet emotions; buddhanature includes everything. It’s the calm, and the disturbed, and the roiled up, and the still; it’s the bitter and the sweet, the comfortable and the uncomfortable. Buddhanature includes opening to all of these things, and it’s found in the midst of all of them. – Pema Chodron, “Meditating with Emotions” |

Work from Where You Are
In human life, if you feel that you have made a mistake, you don’t try to undo the past or the present, but you just accept where you are and work from there. – Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, “Your Life Is Your Practice “ |

“The best gift we can offer our beloved is our true presence, our true listening. We can ask our beloved one, “Darling, do you think I understand you enough? Please tell me how you are really doing. Please open your heart and help me to understand your joys and difficulties, so I can understand you and truly love you.’
– Thich Nhat Hanh |
